‘Harry Potter’ spinoff movie finds its leading man: Eddie Redmayne

It’s been a magical year for Eddie Redmayne, who just a few months ago won Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

Now, the giddy Oscar winner has officially landed the main role in the forthcoming Harry Potter spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The 33-year-old actor will play Newt Scamander, an expert on magical creatures, Warner Bros. confirmed Monday. The plot is set in New York roughly seven decades before Harry Potter’s wizarding saga starts.
